Hi, my name is Jake Velicer, and I am a game designer extremely interested in creating passionate storytelling experiences for it is those types of games that drove me to this major in the first place. I’ve always had fun letting stories impact me on an emotional level and video games allow me to take the driver seat when it comes to experiences like that.
I have had great experiences here at Bradley University and am learning new things as a creative everyday. In the Fall of 2019 I was able to participate in a design internship at F84 Games and Change Lab in Los Angeles. Both were very important in strengthening my knowledge about game design and professional workflow. I have learned programs from the Adobe creative suite to the Unity game engine which are all extremely relevant in the industry.
My ultimate career goal is to be a part of making impactive, interactive storytelling experiences via it be through video games, movies, VR, 360 video, or any other mediums that come about. I want be apart of projects that make people feel!
Hot Wings is a post apocalyptic brawler in which players play as a chicken constantly fighting against endless waves of aliens. I was a designer and the lead programmer on the project. I had the opportunity to develop many of its systems gaining a lot experience along the way. The game was made in Unity and production took place over a 7 month period.
Dying In L.A. Music Video
While in Los Angeles in the Fall of 2018, we made a music video for the song “Dying in LA”, by Panic! At the Disco. I was tasked with doing visual effects for the music video. The scene I edited involved masking actors and green screen keying in After Effects.
Semester in Hollywood Video Series
During my semester in Los Angeles I was periodically recording important moments throughout my journey. When I went on break I edited those moments into a 4 part mini-series. My intention with the style of the videos was to invoke a vlog like experience mixed with cinematic editing and voice-over.
