Paris Geis
Game Design Anticipated Graduation Date: May 2021
About Me
Paris Geis is a sophomore Game Design major and Computer Science and Information Systems minor who focuses on the technical side of his game projects. Paris primarily works as a programmer, using his experience with C# and the Unity game engine to create his own work and support his teams. He has created a number of games during his career at Bradley, both in and out of class. Last November, he showcased Match-Ride Rescue at Dreamhack Atlanta 2018 as a Student Game Showcase Selection.
Featured Projects
PICO-8 Platformer Demo
This past winter break, Paris began working with the PICO-8 “fantasy console,” game development software with artificial technical limitations comparable to the NES and SNES consoles. For this 2D platformer demo, he created custom collision code, sounds, sprites, and a system to animate the player character from scratch in the Lua programming language.
Standoff
Paris created Standoff with three other students as his Game Design I project last fall. This project is a top-down arena shooter for up to four players, featuring a variety of weapons, obstacles, and environmental hazards. Paris’s role in Standoff was as a programmer, primarily focused on recognizing and sorting input for a variable number of controllers.
PiGRRL Zero Build
In addition to working with PICO-8, Paris spent last winter break building and configuring a handheld game console. He followed instructions for the Adafruit PiGRRL Zero, soldering a Raspberry Pi Zero microcomputer to a small LCD and wiring together other components required for powering the device and receiving input. After finishing the hardware portion of the project and packaging the result in a 3D-printed case, he installed the Raspbian OS and PICO-8, allowing him to run his own games and those created by the PICO-8 community.
