About Me

My name is Todd Horwitch and I am a Senior Animation Major. My specialization is in Character Design and Character animation. I look to make my portfolio describe me as a character concept artist. I look towards Riot Games, Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, FX Studios, and Tell Tale Games as studios that I would like to work with when I graduate. I would consider my style of animation and art as very cartoonish. My art tends to have flat colors, thick outlines with a mixture of soft and hard edges. I tend to look to animals for inspiration for my characters and build deep, complex stories for them. I do a lot of intense research when creating characters; clothing that matches the time period, place and culture. The same goes for the characters' personalities. A character's personality shapes how they look, how they dress, how they stand, and how they talk. I've always had a long standing philosophy about character design that every single thing on a character says something about that character. And I think the same thing can be said about people as well. How you dress, how you talk, how you stand, how you look says something about who you are.

Pondering Life

Pondering Life

This project was to describe a character who is idle by animating them. Like I said in my biography, how a person stands and acts describes them as a person. This was a personal exercise to describe a small druidistic character who is sitting down. The animation was done with Toon Boom.

Three Card Monty

Three Card Monty

This is an excerpt from my senior animation film, Three Card Monty. It is an animation about a young street magician who has to play a carnival stall owner's game to obtain the object of desire: A fluffy penguin plushy doll. The animation scene displayed is the initial scene in which the magician displays a sleight of hand card trick.

Uzushio Concept Art

Uzushio Concept Art

This piece was a concept art piece of one of my oldest characters (In terms of original conception). The art was done in Paint Tool Sai, but has ported it to Photoshop to do editing. Since then, I have formatted the art piece to be displayable on Samsung Galaxy Android phones.
