I am a pre- BFA major aiming to make art for games, and eventually my own games someday. After college, my aim is to work in a smaller independent studio.
I spend most of my time drawing, whether it be digitally or with a pencil and paper. I love to practice character design by constantly creating or improving the designs of my own original characters. This year I've been especially practicing making my backgrounds as unique and expressive as my characters and have been working on learning new mediums, like water colour. Some of my digital illustrations can be bought on Redbubble as various products under the name GRoseCollins.
I, of course, love to play games. And while I play, I also like to study the games I’m playing. I even keep a journal on the features I liked and disliked in the game. Then I write down possible fixes for the problematic features.
I can be found online on my website and on twitter under the name of Gwen Collins where I post all of my art.
Charli the Eldergod
This is an illustration of Charli Kerr done for my art class using Copic markers. The assignment was to make a mythical creature from merging together actual creatures. Charli and I used this assignment as the opportunity to bring a running joke in our friend group into reality. Essentially it was a vague list of strange things Charli has said that hint at what her eldritch form looks like.
I made this illustration using the pen tool in photoshop. I wanted to practice making an extremely expressive and very villainous character and this illustration was the result of that experiment. I don't often draw in this angular style, but find it quite fun to do as it forces me to focus on shape.
Out Like A Light
This animation was made using traditional hand drawn animation, with each frame being photographed and then put together in after effects. This was an assignment where we had to make a character and have them uniquely sit in a chair. I designed this character this way so my animation could have a hint of the fantastical and mystery, but also so he would stand out against my other characters I had been creating at the time which leaned more towards small round and cute.
